Office of Government Relations

The Office of Government Relations positions KU leaders and scholars to connect with elected officials, funding agencies and policymakers to benefit the university.

The Office of Government Relations maintains relationships with the executive and legislative branches of state and federal government. The primary function of the office is to interact with state and federal government legislators, agency and other government officials, third-party advocates and key stakeholders to keep them apprised of KU's activities, policy preferences and funding priorities.

The office works closely with legislative liaisons from other Kansas Board of Regents institutions and peer universities nationwide. The office is also an active participant in the work of a number of national higher education associations such as AAU and APLU.

As a general rule, all KU faculty and staff should contact the Office of Government Relations before engaging with government officials. This will help position you to have the best possible experience with external partners while ensuring you comply with state, federal and university policies. For additional information, view our longstanding guidelines on engagement with government officials.
