2024 Legislative Session begins Monday, January 8

The 2024 Legislative Session begins Monday, January 8. Governor Kelly will release her Fiscal Year 2025 budget proposal on Thursday, January 11. Traditionally, each year the budget proposal serves as the starting point for legislative debate in the months that follow.

KU looks forward to reviewing the budget proposal to identify items that would benefit higher education. The university will then share information about those items with legislators and KU audiences in the days ahead. At this time, the university anticipates focusing on funding for the following three priorities:

  • a new KU Cancer Center facility
  • need-based student financial aid
  • stable base funding for university operations

As a reminder, the last two sessions have resulted in the best higher education budgets in years, including essential operations funding, increased need-based scholarships, merit salary increases and other critical investments. As a result, KU was able to hold tuition stable and recruit the largest freshman class in KU history.

"We thank our state government officials for their leadership in recent years and look forward to continuing productive discussions in 2024," said Chancellor Douglas A. Girod.
