Chancellor Girod visits with House, Senate committees to discuss higher education funding
TOPEKA – The University of Kansas continues to be the state’s leading economic development engine and talent magnet, said Chancellor Douglas Girod in pair of presentations to Kansas legislators this month.
The Chancellor visited with the Senate Higher Education Subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee on February 16, as well as the House Committee on Higher Education Budget on February 20. In each presentation, he provided an overview of how KU drives economic growth and provides crucial healthcare access to citizens in every Kansas county.
The chancellor also discussed KU’s recent enrollment success and decade-long effort to cut its budget and responsibly steward state funding – but emphasized that additional state funding is needed to counter inflation, infrastructure needs and new mandatory costs.
Chancellor Girod encouraged each committee to support Governor Kelly’s recommendations for higher education funding, which include nearly $108 million in new funding for the entire system.
